Drunken Monkey
Drunken Monkey (real name currently unavailable) is a DJ, producer and beat technician based in the Oakland, California area.
Making his 1993 debut in Burlington, Vermont on the airwaves of WRUV 901.fm radio, Drunken Monkey spent four years providing listeners with the best of underground music, including Hip-Hop, Dancehall vibrations, and the occasional groove and funk that he would later expand on in his creations.
In 1996, he caught the "Jungle Fever" and started to focus primarily on the Junglist sounds of Drum 'n' Bass, though he did keep his obvious roots of Hip-Hop and Reggae. In 1998, he relocated to San Francisco, California (more commonly referred to as the Bay area) where he spent a year at KUSF radio. During this time, he managed to encompass a variety of beats, including "Hip-Hop (old and new), Reggae (old and new), Jungle/Drum & Bass, Trip-Hop/Down Tempo, House, Breakbeat, Rare Groove/Funk/Soul, and UK's 2-step/Broken Beat styles."
In 2001, he began a career at BPM Records ("an epicenter of the Bay Area's DJ/club scene") and went on to produce albums that are commonly referred to as his "Mixology" series. Over the next few years he collaborated with other well-known club-scene artists and continued to release albums, making him an essential must-have for clubbers / ravers.
He is currently in the Oakland, California area, and in addition to providing his own beats, his latest project has been a collaboration with a Bay Area Hip-Hop group called Odd Man Out. You can find more information on this group at their website, http://www.myspace.com/outsidersperspective.
